MAPPING WORKS
This work explores time and place through two distinct series’; one mapping movements in nature, the other charting the geography of people’s movements.
MOVEMENT IN NATURE
This Botanical series is comprised of drawings and paintings that map the temporal, the ever-changing movement in nature. This work traces time-lapse shifts of shadows, or how wind or water change the form of flora, capturing and registering specific moments in time and space.
MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE
Investigating social and cultural landscapes and points of access these mapping systems highlight meaning and the power of place. This series documents the patterns specific individuals weave in and amongst others as they live their lives, and charts the interlacing of diverse cultural imprints.
WTC PROJECT
The 911 WTC Mapping Project focuses on an everyday detail of the victims’ lives. This work looks at the geography of September 11 as a lens through which to view each individual in an egalitarian manner. It is made up of drawings representing the discrete routes of each victim; by mapping their starting points on the morning of September 11, the lines follow the train tracks, subway lines, ferry routes, plane courses and roads that all converged at the World Trade Center. Tracing the paths of each individual who worked at, or flew into, the WTC site, the piece explores and witnesses the once living organism of their collective connection to the site. The LEF Foundation provided partial support for the development of the 911 WTC Mapping Project.
